Tanzania is, in my opinion, one of the best countries you can visit if you truly want the wild African safari experience. The country has many parks and conservation areas, and each one has something unique to offer.
One of the best destinations you can find in Tanzania, in my opinion, is the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. Not only is it the home of a large amount of animals, but the location of the park itself is just out of this world.
The Ngorongoro Conservation Area is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, located in the Ngorongoro District, around 180 km from Arusha. Now, what makes this park so special, and it actually makes it one of my favorite safari experiences, is that the Ngorongoro is a volcanic crater! It is the world's largest inactive, intact and unfilled volcanic caldera.
One of the most interesting parts of our trip to this particular park was our place of stay. We stayed at a convent, run by nuns. They sang during the mornings, and had mass. The did their shores, they had a beautiful garden full of vegetables, and they helped orphan children. They were really sweet and helpful.
They had a safari Jeep, and a driver, which took us to do our safari at the Ngorongoro crater.
When you get to the conservation area, to go to the crater, which is the main area, you go from the top down, so you get to see the full extent of it. It is just breathtaking.
We got to see huge groups of zebras, many impalas and different types of antelopes, many beautiful birds, but the best we got to see, was a full family of lions. They were beautiful, and we got to see them from up close, as they drank water.
We spent a full day in this safari, and it was the perfect amount of time, as you got to see all the most important areas.
After that, the next day we went to see some nearby attractions, like a museum full of tribal masks and art, and we bought a beautiful mask from local people.
I would completely recommend for you to add this park to your destination list if you are planning on having an African safari experience.
